Whisky is anything that falls under one of the following three descriptions.
A spirit obtained by distilling a fermented mash made by saccharifying sprouted grain and water (distillation strength below 95% ABV). -
A spirit obtained by distilling a mash in which grain has been saccharified with sprouted grain and water and then fermented (also below 95% ABV). - ①
Product 1 or 2 with alcohol, spirits, flavorings, coloring or water added.
If the distillation strength is 95% or higher, the product is classed as spirits, not whisky. For the third description, the total alcohol from the whisky base must be at least one tenth of the total after the additions.
