カナダのウイスキーには、食品医薬品規則という法律に、熟成の決まりがあります。
Canadian whisky is subject to maturation rules set out in the Food and Drug Regulations.
3年以上、小さな木の樽で(Three years in small wood)
カナダで消費するウイスキーは、バーボンとテネシーウイスキーを除いて、小さな木の樽で3年以上熟成させなければ販売できません。
Whisky sold for consumption in Canada, other than Bourbon whisky and Tennessee whisky, must be aged for at least three years in small wood.
「小さな木の樽」とは、容量が700リットル以下の木の樽をいいます。
“Small wood” means wood casks or barrels of not more than 700 litres.
年数の表示と香料の扱い(Age claims and flavouring)

カナダで「スコッチ」「バーボン」などとして売るために輸入したものは、これらの範囲を超えて手を加えられません。

アメリカの規則では(Under US rules)
アメリカの連邦規則では、カナディアンウイスキーは、カナダで、カナダの法律にしたがってつくられたものとされています。ブレンドしたものは、「ブレンデッド・カナディアンウイスキー」と表示します。
US federal rules treat Canadian whisky as a distinctive product of Canada, made in Canada in compliance with its laws. A mixture is labelled “blended Canadian whisky”.
2024年の改正で、以前の細かな規定のいくつかは廃止されました。条文は更新されるため、最新の内容は公式の法令サイトで確認してください。
